Introduction
Prague remains one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen with a fairy tale medieval vibe at extremely affordable prices for European continent.
Arriving
Currency
Czech Republic does not use Euros, they use Czech koruna [CZK] (nickname: “crowns”) – you can find currency exchanges all over the city but be careful about which one you use because many can be scams in terms of exchange rates that are inflated or hidden commissions. Also, be careful to not use a “Euronet” ATM – those inflate the price and they will trick you into withdrawing high amounts of money to pay their crazy high fees.
U.S. dollars and Euros seem to be the easiest currency to exchange into CZK although other currencies (major) are accepted at not-so-favorable rates.
Some good exchange places from Google Maps:
eXchange Address: Kaprova 14/13, 110 00 Josefov, Czechia [be careful of scammers in this area, make sure you enter the right shop]
Xchange Grossmann Address: Krakovská 18/1, 110 00 Nové Město, Czechia
Alfa Prague in PALLADIUM Mall Address: Náměstí Republiky 1078/1, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť, Czechia
Golden exchange Address: Na Poříčí 1063/33, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť, Czechia
Taxis/Rideshare/Local Transportation
Ubers are cheap in Prague and I used Uber for most of my trip. I didn’t use taxis/didn’t want to deal with bargaining. I only tried public transportation once or twice for the experience. Uber should suffice for you and it’s very reasonable, rides costing less than 4-7USD
SIM Cards/Wi-Fi
Czech Republic is part of the European roaming area so you should be able to use a SIM card that would work in other parts of Europe here. Otherwise, ample places to buy a SIM card around town. WiFi is available in most stores and restaurants.
